I-League 2023-24: Gokulam’s 1-1 draw stops Mohammedan Sporting’s winning streak

At the Naihati Stadium on Friday I-League match,Mohammedan Sporting and Gokulam Kerala engaged in an entertaining 1-1 draw in their I-League 2023–24 match.

Gokulam moved up to sixth place on the I-League table, while Mohammedan maintained its lead in the league.Gokulam stopped Mohammedan’s winning streak, having won five straight games, so all in all, they should be happy going home. Gokulam is down 13 points from eight games, while Mohammedan has 20 points from eight games.

The home team’s music dominated the first half, which was tense. Whenever a player entered the Gokulam box, the crowd cheered loudly and the closest player in yellow quickly booted the player out of the way.

Lalremsanga in particular was a constant source of chaos and confusion in the Gokulam defence with his runs from the right. His delivery was often spot-on as well, but it lacked a satisfying finish.

Alexis Gomez, on the opposite flank, never gave Gokulam a break as he constantly cut inside after winning the ball. He and the goalkeeper Devansh Dabas of Gokulam came up with the opening goal alone.

Gomez curled the ball into the near post from a routine corner, hoping a nick would tip it in. It fell directly into Dabas’s hands, who managed to tangle them up and spill it into Abdul Hakku’s path, who was regrettably forced to backtrack. Mohammedan had a well-earned lead with five minutes remaining before halftime.

Early in the second half, Mohammedan had several chances to extend their lead; the best of them was when Bikash Singh missed a header at an open goal.

The misses only motivated Gokulam who built their path to the game, that ultimately ended with a tie. Alex Sanchez was soon imposing himself more on proceedings, but it was two substitutes combining brilliantly to get them an equalizer.

Nili Perdomo’s ingenious through pass set Sreekuttan VS up for a goal, and the winger did not hesitate to chip the ball over Padam Chettri to equalize. It was Mohammedan’s turn to survive, and they did, escaping with one point from home, courtesy of the genius of Chettri, who produced two outstanding saves.

Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful
