Tracey Edmonds and Deion first made their engagement public in 2019 after meeting in 2012
On Sunday night, Deion Sanders and Tracey Edmonds announced on Instagram that their engagement had ended.
This decision is purely mutual and we shall always stay ‘good friends’. We have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we’ve shared together,” Edmonds and Sanders wrote in a joint statement on her Instagram page. “To EVERYONE who has been there for us, supported us, and shown us love…
We ask that you remember us in your prayers as we go through this change. We appreciate your support over the years. We adore and value you so very much. She added a red heart emoji and praying hands as she finished.
In response, Sanders wrote in the comments, “I love you, Tracey, and you’ve been a real blessing to me. I cherish the moments we’ve spent together and the laughs we’ve shared. You are a fantastic mother and an incredible woman. May God grant you success in all of your endeavors and actions. You embody HER. Mack Tracey!
How it started
The 56-year-old Tracey Edmonds and Sanders first connected at a 2012 film premiere party for a film that Edmonds had produced. Sanders was so enamored with the producer after their brief first meeting that he asked a friend to get her business card that very evening.
A few months later, Edmonds received an email from the football coach asking to meet to talk about his idea for a reality show. “At first, I just thought I was going to produce [Deion’s Family Playbook],” Edmonds said. “But as started knowing Deion during the shows, we became quite close and eventually started loving one another.”
Throughout their relationship, the pair managed to be apart from one another. Sanders, who has been married twice before, stated that he and Edmonds are “at the age and stage where I don’t think neither of us needs a lot”.
The former athlete revealed that, in order to give each other room to pursue their individual careers, he and Edmonds don’t often talk or text during the day.
While they Tracey Edmonds and Deion apart, the Colorado coach stated that he is passionate about “what both of us contribute to society and to this world.” “It’s not just a separation because you want it, it’s a decision taken because you are doing things and you are really influencing people.”
Edmonds added, saying that “there’s no regular schedule with us” and that “we just do our very best to see each other as much as we possibly can.” Edmonds founded her own production company, Edmonds Entertainment Group, of which she currently serves as CEO.
Edmonds and musician Babyface are parents to two sons, Dylan and Brandon. Additionally, she has established some boundaries to “keep them out of the Hollywood craziness.”
Since I’m a single mother, I’ve always believed that open communication about life is crucial between myself and my two boys. They’ve grown up extremely close to me in every aspect of their lives because there’s just the three of us in our home,” she said to the website Tinseltown Mom.
As a father, Sanders has managed to bring together his passion for sports and his love for his kids. Sanders coached Shilo and Shedeur at Jackson State and currently at Colorado University. His three sons played football, and both of his daughters were accomplished basketball players.
“Whenever we step on the grass, practice, game, it doesn’t even matter, he’s a whole different man and I’m a whole different person, too,” Regarding striking a balance between the player-coach and father-son dynamic with Sanders, Shedeur spoke with PEOPLE. “Therefore, it’s dad and that whenever we leave the field after the game and go beyond the white lines. On the field, though, it’s coach straight.”
